MENDOCINO CO., 12/23/25 – The California Highway Patrol will launch a holiday enforcement period over Christmas to promote safe driving and reduce traffic fatalities.

The enforcement period begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday and continues through Thursday night. During that time, CHP officers will increase patrols to ensure seat belts are worn, drivers are sober and speed limits are followed.

CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee said the life-changing consequences of speeding or reckless driving are not worth the risk.

“Our officers see the destruction these choices can cause, and we urge every driver to slow down, stay alert and make decisions that protect themselves and others,” Duryee said. “No destination is worth risking a life.”

During last year’s holiday enforcement period, CHP officers arrested more than 300 impaired drivers and issued more than 2,250 speeding citations, according to the agency.

Seventeen people were killed in traffic crashes during that period, CHP said.
