MENDOCINO CO., 12/9/25 – A prescribed burn will take place southeast of Laytonville starting Monday, Cal Fire said.

According to the fire agency, crews will burn approximately 450 acres of chaparral and vegetation within oak woodlands and mixed conifer habitats. The result will be a mosaic of burned vegetation and islands of unburned habitat.

Burning activities will start around 8 a.m. and end around 3 p.m. daily. The burn will be reliant on weather conditions. It will end no later than Dec. 22, the fire agency said.

Smoke and aircraft may be visible from U.S. Highway 101.

The burn is part of a series of prescribed burns at Shamrock Ranch implemented by the agency as part of the state’s plan to reduce fuels in areas most at-risk of wildfires.

  1. Too bad they don’t burn anything close enough to the houses instead of burning miles away from the population centers! Makes for good hunting I guess.
