UKIAH, CA., 11/1/25 – Crews are making progress on the Urban Core Rehabilitation and Transportation Project in central Ukiah.

The project — which includes improvements ranging from new storm drains to ADA-accessible ramps — remains on schedule, weather permitting, said Traci Boyl, senior analyst for the city manager’s office.

Work along Perkins Street is moving quickly, Boyl said, with most construction taking place at night to minimize traffic disruptions.

Crews continue to install storm drains, ADA ramps, and a new eastbound lane. Paving is expected to begin the first week of December, depending on weather conditions.

According to Boyl, the UCRT has so far installed 84 new ADA ramps, updated or built 2.9 miles of bike lanes, reconstructed 4.8 miles of roadway, and installed new traffic signals, sidewalks, streetlights, storm drains, and bioswales.

City officials are touting the UCRT as a key investment in local economic development.

“This project highlights the city’s active role in supporting economic growth and community revitalization,” Boyl said, “The results are already visible along Perkins Street, where several new developments are taking shape.”

New projects in the area include Habit Burger, Redwood Credit Union, El Molcajete Restaurant, Mendocino College student housing, and the new Mendocino County Courthouse

Funding for the project comes from Measure Y revenue, utility funds, and the California Department of Transportation’s Local Partnership Program.

“Thank you all for your patience and support as we continue this important infrastructure investment that supports local business, mobility, and community vitality,” Boyl said.
