WASHINGTON (AP), 11/19/25— President Donald Trump signed legislation Wednesday that compels his administration to release files on convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, bowing to political pressure from his own party after initially resisting those efforts.
Trump could have chosen to release many of the files on his own months ago.
“Democrats have used the ‘Epstein’ issue, which affects them far more than the Republican Party, in order to try and distract from our AMAZING Victories,” Trump said in a social media post as he announced he had signed the bill.
Now, the bill requires the Justice Department to release all files and communications related to Epstein, as well as any information about the investigation into his death in a federal prison in 2019, within 30 days. It allows for redactions about Epstein’s victims for ongoing federal investigations, but DOJ cannot withhold information due to “embarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity.”
It was a remarkable turn of events for what was once a farfetched effort to force the disclosure of case files from an odd congressional coalition of Democrats, one GOP antagonist of the president, and a handful of erstwhile Trump loyalists. As recently as last week, the Trump administration even summoned one Republican proponent of releasing the files, Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, to the Situation Room to discuss the matter, although she did not change her mind.
But over the weekend, Trump did a sharp U-turn on the files once it became clear that congressional action was inevitable. He insisted the Epstein matter had become a distraction to the GOP agenda and indicated he wanted to move on.
“I just don’t want Republicans to take their eyes off all of the Victories that we’ve had,” Trump said in a social media post Tuesday afternoon, explaining the rationale for his abrupt about-face.
The House passed the legislation on a 427-1 vote, with Rep. Clay Higgins, R-La., being the sole dissenter. He argued that the bill’s language could lead to the release of information on innocent people mentioned in the federal investigation. The Senate later approved it unanimously, skipping a formal vote.
It’s long been established that Trump had been friends with Epstein, the disgraced financier who was close to the world’s elite. But the president has consistently said he did not know of Epstein’s crimes and had cut ties with him long ago.
Before Trump returned to the White House for a second term, some of his closest political allies helped fuel conspiracy theories about the government’s handling of the Epstein case, asserting a cover-up of potentially incriminating information in those files.

The mainstream media has been pounding the drum and now getting what it wanted with the files release. But just watch the turn around and then blame Trump when innocent lives are exposed. To be sure, victim identity and grand jury information will be redacted, but “the raw intelligence files contain unverified allegations, hearsay, and potentially defamatory material that will implicate the innocent in ways that are legally non-actionable.” Even worse, the media is already distorting files by saying “Trump knew about the girls” falsely implying Trump knew about the girls on the island, by leaving out the rest, Trump knew about his female employees being lured away and ‘stolen’ from Mar-a-Lago. Trump is right that all of this is going to be one long distraction from the real news.
We deserve the truth and accoutability bout those who abuse women and girls. No one is above the law. Trump is a master of distraction: the ballroom, painting the Eisenhower building, the unlawful killings at sea, calling out the national guards, etc. How bout the real story of the unrelenting corruption and looting of our tax dollars constantly going on throughout his administration?
Like the mainstream media, which mainly targets Trump with an implication that Trump is involved in a cover-up of a sex trafficking scheme, you overlook all the high level Democrats involved. Why is that?
The cold hard truth is Epstein is still dead. His pedophile ring was broken by the Palm Beach Police in 2005, and the government has had 20 years to “lose” evidence.
Keep in mind that these files have been on a desk at the DOJ for a long time, some since 2019. If there was evidence that could have incriminated key political figures, it would have been weaponized long before now. I would wager that the actual details are unsubstantial and too vague for prosecution. It will amount to a huge can of worms for people on both sides of the aisle and from many walks of life. Enough worms to feed the media’s sensationalism and create questions without answers. Trust me, if there was something implicating Trump, it would have been headline news already.
If we truly seek the truth about those who abuse women and girls why is the focus only on Trump, and not Bill Clinton?
There is evidence, in publicly released flight logs and related DOJ files listing Bill Clinton as a passenger on Jeffrey Epstein’s planes multiple times in 2002–2003, however, there are denials that he ever flew to Little Saint James. Perhaps so.
Even if there was some minimum effort to get to the bottom of this with the same self-righteousness as with Trump, I could sit back, lose interest and make no further comment. Seems to me, Clinton had ties to Epstein like Trump did.
Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary Clinton, have been ordered to appear for depositions in front of the House Oversight Committee. Okay so jk, let’s see some more of that self righteousness about seeking the truth…!
I’ll wait.
