MENDOCINO CO., 10/1/25 – Congress failed to agree on a budget Tuesday, triggering a federal government shutdown that will furlough some employees and hinder federal services.
Democrats and Republicans each blocked the other’s stopgap spending proposals. The Democratic plan would have added $1 trillion to health care spending, including restoring Medicaid cuts and extending Affordable Care Act subsidies.
Gov. Gavin Newsom blamed Republicans and former President Donald Trump.
“Donald Trump and his lapdog Republicans just shut down the federal government after refusing to protect Americans from an imminent spike in health insurance costs,” Newsom wrote on X. “This is what the GOP stands for.”
U.S. Rep. Jared Huffman, D-San Rafael, called the shutdown “reckless.”
“This is harmful, really avoidable, too,” Huffman said on Instagram. “We are standing our ground, and we’re standing here in Washington calling on our Republican colleagues to get the hell back here so we can do the right thing and save health care for the American people.”
Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., said Democrats’ “far-left base and far-left senators” were to blame.
“Apparently, the American people just have to suffer the consequences,” Thune said as Congress moved closer to the shutdown.
U.S. Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Calif., also faulted Republicans.
“Trump and MAGA Republicans just shut down the government,” Padilla wrote on X. “They want to fund billionaire tax breaks while blocking Democrats’ plan to protect health care for 20 million Americans, including 1.7 million Californians.”
Why are Huffman and the rest of his party trying to reinstate the COVID Era President Biden order to provide Healthcare to illegal immigrants and insert it into the clean Continuing Resolution? Why are the Democrats and their shills in the media lying to the public?

When the House of Representatives voted on a “clean” continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government and avoid a shutdown, virtually all House Democrats opposed the stopgap measure, including U.S. Rep. Jared Huffman. Anyone not know that? Be watchful of the news media covering for political friends and then shifting the blame. Distrust of the everyday news media has now become necessary for responsible citizens, because we are not getting fully accurate news reports.
