FORT BRAGG, CA., 10/18/25 — At least 2,200 protesters lined half a mile of California state Highway 1 in Fort Bragg, stretching from McDonald’s to the Chevron station Saturday, in a peaceful demonstration against the policies and actions of the Trump administration. Drivers slowed and honked as participants held signs, waved banners and wore a range of colorful costumes, from inflatable frogs to dinosaurs and unicorns.
The frog costume, which one organizer said has been worn across multiple countries during “No Kings” protests, originated at protests at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Portland, Oregon. Christie Olson Day, one of the event’s organizers, said the costume was chosen to counter the belief that protesters are dangerous, offering instead a playful and approachable image.

The symbolism fit with the upbeat tone of the crowd, which included families with small children, elderly participants and groups of teenagers.
Olson Day, speaking for Indivisible Mendocino Coast, emphasized the broader goals of the demonstration. “It’s pro-democracy. Everything comes under the tent of people having the power to remove elected officials who are not serving us,” she said. We want to protect our constitutional rights, we want to protect the most vulnerable people who are being targeted — immigrants, LGBTQ+ people. If we can replace elected officials who are not doing their job, everything else follows that.”
She described the event as part of a global movement across 18 countries and said that Indivisible is having a planning meeting Tuesday to decide what comes next. Olson Day said she believes that events will continue to grow in numbers, as this one was larger than a similar event in June that had around 1,500 people in attendance.

Protesters carried signs highlighting an array of concerns, including ICE raids, Medicare, environmental issues, LGBTQ+ rights, democracy, Proposition 50, defunding of libraries and more. Prop. 50, a statewide ballot initiative, focuses on drawing temporary districts in California in response to redistricting in Texas. Some signs were light with humor, including one reading, “IKEA has better cabinets.” Others were more urgent, such as “Only YOU can prevent a dictatorship” and “Save our senior services.”
No police presence was visible, and organizers actively guided participants along sidewalks, helping them cross safely. Signs stated, “Please stay on the sidewalk, this is a lawful event.” Someone with a bullhorn led chants of “Tell me what democracy looks like! This is what democracy looks like!” across the bridge, over the nonstop honking of passing cars.

For many, the protest was deeply personal. Participant Averee McNear said, “The importance of this protest is to show that young and old, we don’t stand for what’s happening, and we’re going to stand up for our rights no matter what.” She singled out immigration enforcement policies as particularly troubling, citing videos of ICE officers detaining people without apparent cause.
Organizers hope the event will inspire continued engagement. Olson Day encouraged others to get involved locally, noting that “protecting America’s constitutional democracy is going to take everybody.”

Sure glad I went to work and missed it. Hope they didn’t take drivers eyes off the road.
Kennie, we are all super happy you could not make it and hope you miss all the community events in the future.
Sorry you had to work on a Saturday.
No Kings Day was a single day, and it’s come and gone. Meanwhile, our so called “King”, hasn’t even finished a year in office yet. Already, he has closed the border, helped release the last live hostages from Hamas, and brought peace to several small conflicts. Now he is working on the war in Ukraine, (with 3 more years to go). History will little note Oct 18 as being significant. I predict history will write up Trump as our third greatest President after Washington and Lincoln. Not for his little idiosyncrasies that the protesters dislike, but for what he will have accomplished for the United States.
Much Ado About Nothing.
News reports at the end of today are saying many protesters were not sure what the purpose was for No Kings Day. Thousands of protest postcards with goals and objectives printed on them were handed out at some locations. So people showed up but then had to be told why they were there. Does that make sense?
Since people are free to assemble and speak here in the US, we don’t live under a dictatorship after all. Right?
….Dave, stay in your own lane. Your propaganda is screwed up dude. When do you remember folks that were invited to a community event and didn’t know why they there! And then 2000 like minded folks with compassion in their hearts and you freakin’ dox them, so damn logical. Just shameful….
Where do you get your news? Everyone who came out for No Kings Day knew what they were doing, in spite of what the right wing news sources say. Also, it was peaceful everywhere and there were no arrests of the protestors, BUT some MAGA counter protestors were arrested in various places. You are apparently one of the people who believe the lies of Donald Trump and the right-wing media, so you will never believe the truth—This country is headed for a fascist dictatorship. If you can’t see that, I guess you’ll just keep trolling.
Maybe not a dictatorship but when you can be roughed up, kidnapped and detained by masked, unidentified thugs it sure smells like third world authoritarianism.
Kings day = Mass formation psychosis on display!
Does your mouth taste good after licking the crap off nazi boots?
I’m sure you must have tried it and think it taste good, I’ll have to take your word for it as I’m not a socialist like Hitler.
….No clues whatsoever!….
Trump has given permission for the creeps to come out from under the rocks as evidenced by some of the comments.
Unbelievable my understanding. Get right with life and life will treat you better.
You mentioned that the crowd included families with small children and teenagers. I was there, but I didn’t see anybody but oldies like me. Maybe they were all in inflatable costumes or on the south side of the bridge near the band. I hope so. I was very disappointed that I only saw the usual suspects.
Were I was, on the south side, there were lots of younger people and the last people remaining at the protest were a group of 20-somethings.
Dave speaks truth ! Couldn’t have said it better. Thank God there really are some Patriots in Fort Bragg. Truth always prevails! Go Trump and team you truly are making America great again.
You are delusional. Anyone who supports Trump’s efforts to turn this country into a fascist dictatorship, is NOT a patriot either!
Quetzalita: Turning America into a fascist dictatorship is exactly what Antifa is trying to do with the backing of the Democrat Party while they call for the overthrow of the United States Government and our law enforcement authorities. Glad you reminded me to mention that.
There families with kids on the South end but not on the bridge. American flags were being waved all along the route. Not only was the crowd good sized but for the entire 2 1/2 hours I was there, the horn honking and waving were non stop. Not a disparaging word or action was noted.
We make our own fun here. Go Trump!
Our great country of America is under siege by Trump. He came out and said he is shutting down all the Democratic programs. Well I have news for you. Senior Citizens do not come in parties, it’s old age and we all get there. Children are not born in parties, they are all the same. Trump is cutting off funding for hospitals, we do not know if our Coast District Hospital will make it thanks to the cuts. So all you who support Trump better believe it will affect you when we don’t have a hospital, it will. It is affecting the education department which is basically shut down. No matter who you voted for, if your kids want to go to college this affects your family. If you are a real American who believes in the Constitution of the United States of America, you understand why fighting this is so important to keep our freedom.
