UKIAH, CA., 8/19/25 – This week’s Featured Pet is Woolly, a 3-year-old dog available for adoption at the Ukiah Animal Shelter.

Here’s his profile from the Ukiah Animal Shelter:

Woolly is a very handsome, large adult dog with a shy but friendly demeanor. He’s treat-motivated and responds well to positive reinforcement. While it’s not clear if Woolly gets along with other dogs, he did live harmoniously with canine companions in his previous home. New owners should be aware that Woolly will need a fenced-in yard, as in true Pyrenees fashion, he loves to be in the great outdoors. Once Woolly learns to trust you, he will be a loyal companion.

Woolly is a Great Pyrenees, 3 years old and 77 fluffy pounds. Pyrs were bred to guard sheep in snowy mountain areas and are known to be confident, gentle, and affectionate with family members.

The American Kennel Club includes the following in its description of the Great Pyrenees: “while territorial and protective of his flock or family when necessary, the general demeanor of the Pyr is one of quiet composure, both patient and tolerant. He is strong willed, independent and somewhat reserved, yet attentive, fearless and loyal to his charges both human and animal.”
