MENDOCINO CO., 7/2/25 — Sonoma Clean Power, a community-owned electricity provider that serves Mendocino and Sonoma counties, has contributed $20,000 to start a program aimed at expanding experiences for Mendocino County youth outside the traditional classroom.
The SchoolsRule Mendocino County initiative was created by Mendocino County Superintendent Nicole Glentzer and the Mendocino County Office of Education.
The program will use the funds to organize school field trips, outdoor activities, and arts and science programs. SchoolsRule will work directly with schools by providing financial resources and helping them implement events for students.
“Sonoma Clean Power stepped up for Mendocino County students,” Superintendent Glentzer said. “This generous gift is more than financial support. It represents a shared commitment to ensuring all students, in every community, have access to opportunities that help them thrive.”
Sonoma Clean Power aids local organizations and schools by providing grants, scholarships, and volunteers. Since the agency began in 2014, it has given more than $5 million to nonprofit organizations, workforce programs, and fire relief initiatives, it said.
“We know that SchoolsRule is an effective model for supporting students and expanding access to experiences they might not otherwise have,” said Sean Dalton, events manager at Sonoma Clean Power. “This effort reflects Sonoma Clean Power’s commitment to building resilient communities and opening doors for all students.”
According to Sonoma Clean Power, financial donations will be distributed based on enrollment, but every public school in Mendocino County will receive support.
