UKIAH, CA., 6/6/25 — The major street reconstruction and utility replacement on Main, Gobbi, and Perkins streets is entering its final stages. Drivers, bus passengers and shoppers will be happy to hear that the largely grant-funded project will be wrapping up this summer.

But first comes the pain.

Paving on West Gobbi Street between State and Dora streets will begin Monday. This section of the street must be totally reconstructed, which means the street will be completely closed to traffic Monday through Friday through June 13, from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Residents can use their driveways outside of these hours but they cannot drive during construction and should plan to park their vehicles outside the construction zone. Dora and State streets at the Gobbi intersection will remain open, but expect lane detours as contractors work near the intersections. Use caution and if possible avoid the area.

And then East Gobbi Street will be paved. That part is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of June 23, with possible night paving to reduce construction time and impacts to traffic. This section will take approximately one week, and additional information will be provided once dates have been confirmed.

Final water tie-ins on East Gobbi near the Orchard Avenue intersection is scheduled for night work on Thursday to reduce impacts to residents. Residents and businesses will be provided 72-hour advance notice of any planned utility outages.

Gobbi’s done. Now onto Main and Perkins!

Once East and West Gobbi streets are paved, reconstruction and paving will begin on Main Street from Norton to Gobbi.

Potholing (drilling into the pavement to identify utilities) will begin on Perkins Street June 16. Perkins Street construction will consist of adding a new eastbound lane between Orchard Avenue and Pear Tree Center driveways, some concrete work, installation of new storm drains on the north side of the road, and updated traffic signals. Most of this work will occur between the Orchard Avenue intersection and Hospital Drive. Once complete, Perkins Street will be paved. Additional information about this project can be found on the City of Ukiah’s website at cityofukiah.com/ucrt.
