Dear Editor:

Unfortunately, the recent federal budget cuts that have been impacting the Mendo Food Network and Fort Bragg Food Bank continue to affect our ability to maintain our programs.

Effective in June, we will no longer be holding two pop-ups a month in Willits. We will continue our first Thursday pop-up in Willits, but will no longer have a third Thursday pop-up.

We understand that this will be challenging for many of our community members, and we apologize. Please know that our programs and the families we serve are our priority, and any changes we make are out of necessity. Cutting our services is the last thing we want to do.

If you have any questions regarding our pop-up services or the impact of federal budget cuts on our programs, please reach out at (707) 809-5669 or info@mendofood.org.

Thank you for your understanding.

  1. Instead of giving away food to anyone who shows up in line maybe it is time to verify need. Also instead of reliance on the Federal Government, which is so deeply in debt it is a threat to the country, you might try fund raising. Yes, that means getting out of the chair and convincing members of the community that what you are doing is worthwhile. Federal government checks in the mail won’t be coming. It is going to get tougher in the coming years. No more easy money.

  2. Here is a fact check for Dave. Cuts have zero to do with the “debt”. Read on. This what you want, Dave?
AI-generated 6-7-25 re the “Big Beautiful Bill”
“The House-passed version of this bill proposes cutting SNAP funding by approximately $300 billion over the next decade, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. This would represent the largest cut to the program in its history.
These SNAP cuts are proposed to help pay for trillions in tax cuts that are primarily skewed towards the wealthy.”

  3. Maybe if the illegals got jobs instead of gangbanging they could buy their own food. Or better yet-LEAVE!

    1. Oh wow that’s really quite bright of you to rationalize that it’s illegal immigrants that are what’s to blame for all the problems in this country. The illegal immigrants aren’t the real problem but I guess some people still can’t see that it’s not about race, nationality, the color of ones skin, or their citizenship status that’s keeping us down, & that maybe the problems could be better solved if people would just open their eyes & follow the f*ing money trail to the rich & ultra rich cause that’s where a major part of all the problems of this country really begins & ends. The worst of the worst in this country are not the illegal immigrants! it’s the rich people that don’t want to pay their fair share & expect the poor to carry the weight of this country on their backs, that suck the life’s breathe out of not just this country but the entire world. And it’s the ignorant racist egotistical close minded or uneducated sheep that are enabling those rich thieves to continue keeping us as their under paid slaves working at jobs that we will go to our deaths working cause we will never be able to afford it, to die. As it is today in this country, a lot of people feel like they have no hope of things ever getting better & nothing will ever change for the better no matter what they do, so why even bother trying anymore. And when people feel like that they no longer care about wether theyre breaking the law or not, keeping their environment clean, behaving like civilized individuals, or about being a functional contributor in society. So even if the illegal immigrants did leave the u.s? Do u really think the problems this country is having would magically just go away? I don’t think so, cause the rich would still have all the money & we would still be left with only a couple pennies after working overtime every f*ing day.
