UKIAH, CA. 5/16/25 – Ukiah High School’s track and field team advanced to the Redwood Empire Championships, the Ukiah Unified School District said.

Eighteen varsity Wildcats will compete against student athletes from Sonoma, Napa, Marin, Humboldt and Del Norte counties on Saturday in Fortuna.

Triumphing in the Redwood Empire Championships is the next step for student athletes to qualify for the North Coast Meet of Champions. Winners from the Meet of Champions go on to compete in the California Interscholastic Federation State Championships.

Last week, the Wildcats competed in the North Bay League Track and Field Championships hosted at Ukiah High. The meet pitted the Wildcats against athletes from 10 Sonoma County high schools. Events included discus, pole vault, sprints and hurdles, the district said.

The boys took fifth and the girls took sixth in their respective divisions.

“Our athletes showed grit, heart, and Wildcat pride,” said Ukiah High School track & field coach Jaime Connerton. “Competing against some of the strongest programs in the North Bay, they proved they belong among the best.”

The Redwood Empire Championships takes place Saturday, May 17, at Fortuna High School.
