MENDOCINO CO., 5/18/25 – Cal Fire will implement a prescribed burn at the University of California’s Hopland Research and Extension Center starting on Monday.
The prescribed burn will last almost three weeks, Cal Fire said. The expected end date is Friday, June 6.
Burning will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Smoke will be visible in the area, including from U.S. Highway 101.
According to Cal Fire, approximately 500 acres of land will be burned as part of the state’s fuel reduction program.
If conditions make it dangerous to implement the burn, such as wildfire activity or weather, the burn will be postponed.
A control burn with off shore winds? Sounds like a recipe for disaster. Hope the fire scientists from UC Berkeley are there to supervise Cal Fire.
