MENDOCINO CO., 5/28/25 – The first heat wave of the year will arrive in Mendocino County on Friday, triggering the National Weather Service to issue a heat advisory.
According to the weather service, temperatures as high as 105 degrees are expected in parts of the county on Friday.
Brooktrails, Laytonville, Leggett, Piercy, Potter Valley, Redwood Valley and Willits can expect highs in the mid-90s.
Calpella, Ukiah, Covelo and Hopland will hit the 100s.
Talmage is expected to be the hottest place in the county Friday with a forecast high of 106 degrees.
Anderson Valley is not under the advisory.
With hot temperatures comes a higher risk of heat-related illnesses. “Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors,” the weather service said. “Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.”
NWS also advises that people who must work outside take extra care: “Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.”
No cooling centers were announced as of Wednesday morning, but local libraries are open during their regular hours.
