MENDOCINO CO., 5/10/25 – The California Transportation Commission awarded the Mendocino County Department of Transportation a $39.9 million grant to connect Redemeyer Road with N. State Street in the Forks area north of Ukiah, the county said Friday.
According to the county, Redemeyer Road will be extended westward via a bridge over the Russian River, followed by a crossing over the railroad tracks before connecting with N. State Street.
The map that the county submitted in its grant application shows roundabouts being installed at Redemeyer Road and the connector and at N. State Street, W. Lake Mendocino Drive and the connector.
The project is funded through the state’s Local Transportation Climate Adaptation Program, or LTCAP. The program funds climate-resilient infrastructure projects.
In its grant application, the county said residents of Deerwood Drive, Pepperwood Place, El Dorado and Vichy Springs roads and the Guidiville Rancheria will benefit from the new connector, which will decrease emergency response time and improve travel time for those traveling to and from north and central Ukiah.
To access central Ukiah now, residents must travel approximately three miles south to Vichy Springs Road, which connects to E. Perkins Street. The new connector will decrease travel distance and time.
The total cost of the project is approximately $52 million. The $39.9 million state grant is being matched by $3.9 million from the county. The remaining $8.2 million will be secured through grants and other external funding opportunities, the county said.
The county hopes to begin construction on the project in 2028.

Not really sure how it reduces travel time. These folks must still travel far on Lake Mendocino Dive to connect. LMD is already at max travel capacity. Then 3 miles on State Street. Not seeing the benefit for expense pay out.
The project is worth while for emergency egress, but I don’t think it will happen anytime soon. Our representatives are tied up in their briefs with a $17MM budget shortfall and are not likely to put up $3.9MM to qualify for the grant.
Meanwhile Brooktrails is still in limbo…🤔
Might this have anything to do with the proposed city of Ukiah annexation of this region? I’m not saying it is good or bad, just keeping an eye on development.
Exactly
Ghilotti construction better start buying washer $ dryer’s for the county heads like they do for the city
More Mendocino County money to be wasted and Miss A prograded by the people that run Mendocino County such as Board of Supervisors. Nothing new
Wow! 52 Million Dollars to save those folks from driving a few extra minutes?! This is definitely about annexing and developing those fields between…expect lots of corrupt backroom deals to follow- and this is one of them. That’s a lot of taxpayer money right there!!
Meanwhile potter valley roads are like driving on a river bar.
California State Auditor going through Mendocino County’s books due to misappropriation of previously dispersed grant funds. Corruption runs deep in many County Departments.
