UKIAH, CA., 4/23/25 — Activist group Invisible Ukiah will present a letter of support from Senator Elizabeth Warren, D-Massachusetts, and other congressional leaders to Social Security Administration workers at the local Ukiah office on Thursday.
The national Indivisible organization formed in response to President Donald Trump’s first election. Smaller chapters formed across the country, including in Ukiah.
The group’s motto is “We are indivisible,” rallying behind an ideology that an attack on one is an attack on all. The Thursday event is to show support for the Social Security program and its workers.
Since March, news outlets and activists have sounded an alarm that Social Security is in danger. The program provides income to an estimated 70 million retired and disabled Americans monthly.
The Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, has reduced staffing across the SSA, resulting in long wait times and delays in benefit changes. It’s so bad, one staff member called the situation “complete, utter chaos.”
The SSA manages benefits such as retirement, survivor, disability, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and administers the MediCare program.
“As Trump and DOGE continue to pressure the Social Security Administration to cut more jobs, there are still thousands of incredible Americans working day and night to make sure benefits continue to get in the hands of the people,” Indivisible Ukiah said about the event. “Those people need to know that we support them.”
National activist group, Social Security Works, is co-organizing the rally.
The event takes place at 11:45 a.m. at Ukiah’s Social Security office at 521 S. Orchard St. on Thursday.
