FORT BRAGG, CA., 4/27/25 – The Mendocino County Safe Space Project was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Rykken and Scull LGBTQ Memorial Fund, the project said Sunday.

Managed by the Community Foundation Sonoma County, the memorial fund has awarded thousands of dollars to LGBTQ+ organizations since 2012. It also provides college scholarships to LGBTQ+ youth in Marin, Mendocino, Napa, Solano and Sonoma counties.

The Safe Space Project is a Fort Bragg-based nonprofit with the mission of creating “inclusive environments in Mendocino County for individuals in the LGBTQIA+ community of all ages by focusing on education, advocacy, and community-building.”

In March, the project launched the Roy Mora Memorial Scholarship to honor Roy Mora, a transgender high school from Fort Bragg who died tragically in December.

“A heartfelt thank you to the County of Sonoma Community Foundation for recognizing our efforts in promoting equality for the LGBTQIA2S+ communities,” the project said. “This grant will help us continue our important work and make a positive impact. We are deeply grateful for your support and belief in our mission.”
