MENDOCINO CO., 3/22/25– A beach hazard warning is in place for the Mendocino Coast through Sunday afternoon, said the National Weather Service.
The weather service is asking people to avoid steep beaches, rocks and jetties. The warning is in place from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
According to the weather service, “large, unexpected waves can sweep across the beach without warning, sweeping people into the sea from rocks, jetties, and beaches.”
Large objects such as logs can be moved by the waves, crushing people and pets caught underneath, the weather service added.
“Don’t be fooled by an ocean that looks calm,” the weather service said. “There can be 30 minutes of small waves before a sneaker wave strikes … stay much further back from the water and never turn your back on the ocean.”
