MENDOCINO CO., 2/10/25 – Another round of rain is expected Wednesday and Thursday, with some mild flooding expected along the Russian River in Hopland, according to the National Weather Service.
“We have a chance of precipitation on Wednesday morning. There could even be snow early Wednesday morning, but I don’t think it would get to the valley floors,” said Jacob Boomsma, a meteorologist with the weather service.
On Wednesday and Thursday, and possibly into Friday morning, 2 to 3 inches of rain is expected, Boomsma said.
The Northern Mendocino County region, in the higher terrain around Laytonville, will see a substantial amount of rainfall. There will also be higher rainfall on the coast.
Boomsma added that the rain is expected to taper off starting Friday morning and it should be dry by Friday afternoon.
Additionally, the weather service expects there to be mild flooding of the Russian River in Hopland.
“The Russian River in Hopland looks like it could reach flood stage but just barely getting above flood stage,” Boomsma said. “It looks like the peak flood stage could be Thursday night into Friday morning.”
Boomsma said Saturday is expected to be largely dry, with rainfall continuing mainly in Northern Mendocino and Southern Humboldt counties.
The weather service will be providing more information about the forecast in the next few days as weather models become more concise. To see updated forecasts, people can visit www.weather.gov/eka.
