MENDOCINO CO., 11/26/24 — Mendocino County Public Health issued a public health alert on Friday regarding H5N1, or bird flu, after a child in the Bay Area was suspected of suffering from the virus.

No human-to-human transmission is involved, and the child is recovering. The county notes that mild eye irritation and flu-like symptoms can be present, and that good hygiene, including hand-washing, will limit any virus, including H5N1. The county’s press release is below.
