MENDOCINO CO., 11/8/24 – The emotional roller coaster known as the presidential election came to stop early Wednesday morning when Donald Trump was elected 47th president of the United States.
Vice President Kamala Harris, a Northern California native, was unable to pull out a win, resulting in shock and dismay among her supporters. Wednesday afternoon, Harris gave a concession speech in Washington, D.C. after she spoke to Trump by phone.
Responses started trickling in from local and state representatives in response to Trump’s win.
Governor Gavin Newsom applauded Harris for standing “up for working families, decency, and opportunity,” in a social media post. “Though this is not the outcome we wanted, our fight for freedom and opportunity endures. California will seek to work with the incoming president — but let there be no mistake, we intend to stand with states across our nation to defend our Constitution and uphold the rule of law. Federalism is the cornerstone of our democracy. It’s the United STATES of America.”
Senators Alex Padilla posted on X that “Progress does not come easily or quickly.” He continued, “This election was a difficult reminder of that, but the work will continue. To ensure hardworking Americans can provide for their families. To protect vulnerable communities. To defend our democracy.”
Senator Laphonza Butler and Rep. Jared Huffman have yet to share their thoughts on the election publicly.
State Senator and President pro Tempore Mike McGuire released a statement that expressed gratitude for Harris, calling her a patriot who leads with conviction. “While the outcome of the presidential race is incredibly devastating for so many Californians – we are more determined than ever to pursue and protect the values that make this state great.”
McGuire also called on Californians to “ensure that the rule of law wins the day, that all Americans are protected, and that the Golden State continues to be a bulwark for democracy.”
Assemblymember Jim Wood did not release a statement.

Chris Rogers, who will succeed Wood to represent District 2 in the State Assembly, acknowledged the election in an acceptance statement. “Now California must also be the tip of the spear,” he said, “pushing back against Donald Trump’s dangerous vision for our country’s future.”
Local nonprofits and community organizations also shared thoughts about the election outcome.
“Congratulations President Trump,” the Mendocino County Republicans said, “Not only the electoral college but the popular vote also! Whoop!”
The League of Women Voters of Mendocino County said it supports the statement release by the national League, which said, “While we celebrate a fair and secure election, the outcome of this election has made the future for women unclear.” The statement goes on to express concern about issues that impact women, including health care, reproductive rights, economic security and equal representation. The League did not mention either presidential candidate by name.
The Mendocino County Safe Space Project, a Fort Bragg-based nonprofit that advocates for education, community-building and safe spaces for LGBTQ community members, said in response to Trump’s win: “We must move beyond fear. Whatever it takes. Fear is immobilizing, we must mobilize. Fear is debilitating, we must habilitate. Whatever it takes. Sorrow, anger, resilience…we can turn this into action. We must move beyond the fear that keeps us small.”
Another organization serving the local LGBTQ community, Mendo Pride, posted on its Facebook page links to articles about LGBTQ election winners across the country. “Keep your eyes on the rainbows,” the organization wrote.

To summarize: Neither candidate gives a flying f*** about you, me, or any other 9 digit April 15th slave they rule over. Both individuals bow to the power elite and would execute anyone in their way if it came down to losing the election. The sheeple had 2 choices — perceived choices. The majority vote chose the ego centric leader that had the best delivery. Again both would sell your soul if it assured their election. Don’t kid yourself.
I think it was amazing this is stupid newspaper article we’re just brain dead in one-sided. I do believe that you’re probably trying to say that but it just comes out different. I was dismayed but not necessarily shocked by the fact that some of the people that have been in office off and on for a long time got elected to hold another office and the only thing that shocked me was that these are people that are known for their corruption. I don’t know why Mendocino County has such a problem with getting rid of corruption but it’s like they cling to it. I remember the days back when Reno ran things in the Sheriff’s Office and pretty much in the whole County. Unfortunately a lot of corruption still runs through there and other offices of Mendocino County but it just doesn’t seem like we ever get rid of it. Oh well we keep trying and keep trying and keep trying and maybe someday it will happen
You OBVIOUSLY “DONT DO YOUR HOMEWORK” The reason Trump won is because Democrats who are TIRED of the “elite new world order” COMMUNISM creating EXTREME high prices VOTED FOR HIM
Our elections are bought by the corporations and billionaires that pour money into the candidate that will benefit them and their agenda not the people. We meed to take back our elections and Amend “Citizens United”. Support “Move to Amend” and peoples citizen as they work to make this happen.
