MENDOCINO CO., 11/6/24 – A training burn for Cal Fire firefighters will start Thursday at Cal Fire’s Howard Forest facility south of Willits.

“This burn will allow firefighters the training opportunity to utilize various tactics and tools used in wildfire suppression operations,” Cal Fire said. Approximately 100 acres of grass will be burned.

Burns will take place daily Thursday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The training session is weather-dependent, and timelines and implementation are subject to change.

Cal Fire said that smoke and aircraft may be visible in the area, especially along U.S. Route 101.

The burn is part of the state’s efforts to reduce fuels as part of the California Fire Plan and California Wildfire and Forest Resilience Action Plan.
