UKIAH, CA, 10/9/24 – A 33-year-old Ukiah man was arrested for allegedly triggering a fire that caused forest land to burn over the weekend, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s office said deputies were alerted around 7:55 p.m. Sunday to reports of fire and a disturbance in the area of Ackerman Creek, in the 2100 block of North State Street north of Ukiah. Residents said they saw a fire and a man near it.
A deputy and an arson investigator arrived and they saw the man, identified as Brett Adame, standing near the fire. Both conducted an investigation and found a campfire had been lit and went out of control, burning some forest land.
Ukiah Valley Fire Authority crews extinguished the fire, and Adame was placed under arrest and booked into Mendocino County Jail for suspected felony reckless burning. He was held in lieu of $15,000 bail, the Sheriff’s office said.
