MENDOCINO CO., 10/12/24 – A second prescribed burn will take place at Shamrock Ranch near Laytonville starting Monday, said Cal Fire.
The burn is a continuation of a burn that Cal Fire implemented on the ranch this week to treat approximately 2,000 acres of grasslands, chaparral, and understory vegetation within oak woodlands and mixed conifer habitats. That burn ended Friday.
According to Cal Fire, the burn will take Monday through Friday, with activities starting around 8 a.m. and concluding around 3 p.m. daily.
Cal Fire will be treating an estimated 500 acres.
The burn is part of the state’s efforts to reduce fuels as part of the California Fire Plan and California Wildfire and Forest Resilience Action Plan.
Cal Fire said it plans to create “a mosaic of variously burned vegetation and islands of unburned habitat.”
Shamrock Ranch is located southeast of Laytonville. Smoke and firefighting aircraft may be visible from the surrounding area and U.S. Route 101.
According to Cal Fire, the burn will be conducted under specific weather and fuel conditions.
