MENDOCINO CO., 9/6/24 – A motorist was killed on Wednesday south of Laytonville when his pickup truck veered across U.S. Highway 101 and collided with a parked travel trailer, the California Highway Patrol said.
According to the CHP, the driver, a 66-year-old man from Leggett, was driving a Toyota Tundra south on Highway 101 at approximately 8:26 p.m. When traveling through a curved part of the road, the truck drifted across the road to the east.
The truck ran off the highway and onto a dirt shoulder where it descended partially down an embankment while driving parallel to the highway on the northbound shoulder. The truck collided with an unoccupied travel trailer parked on the shoulder.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
The collision remains under investigation. The identity of the man is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
