MENDOCINO CO., 9/23/24 – C&S Waste Solutions and Mendo Recycle are teaming up to offer county residents a chance to dispose of unwanted tires at three sites starting Tuesday.
Residents can bring up to nine passenger tires to three disposal sites per day:
- Ukiah Transfer Station, 3151 Taylor Dr., Ukiah, Mon.-Sat., 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
- Willits Transfer Station, 351 Franklin Ave., Willits, Tue.-Sat., 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
- Caspar Transfer Station, 14000 Prairie Way, Mendocino, Mon.-Wed., 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Sat.-Sun., 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Only residential customers of C&S Waste Solutions and Mendo Recycle can participate.
Properly disposing of tires is important for maintaining public health and safety. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, unused tires can create a breeding ground for mosquitoes and rodents, which can spread disease. Additionally, fires started in scrap tire piles are difficult to extinguish and release toxic black smoke, contributing to wasted emergency resources and poor air quality. Tire fires also contaminate the soil by leaving behind an oily residue.
Keeping tires out of landfills also supports environmental sustainability through recycling and reuse. The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association reports that as of 2017, 81.4 percent of scrap tires are recycled or used in other ways, including civil engineering projects, asphalt, and fuel.

What does “Only residential customers of C&S Waste Solutions and Mendo Recycle can participate.” mean? Does that mean you have to live where there is garbage pick-up? Because I don’t, and I would love to get rid of my old tires.
