UKIAH, CA., 9/12/24 – Service Employees International Union Local 2015, the largest labor union in California, launched a statewide Get Out the Vote campaign for the November election this week.

The union, which represents nearly 490,000 nursing home workers and home care providers, says it wants to “elect care champions up and down the ballot ahead of the 2024 November election.” The union endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president in July.

Events were held in nine cities statewide Wednesday, including San Francisco, Stockton and Ukiah. According to SEIU Local 2015, attendees included In-Home Supportive Services workers, nursing home workers and community members. The events sought to mobilize attendees to not only vote for SEIU 2015-endorsed candidates themselves, but to encourage others to do so, including through strategic activities aimed to get voters to the polls.

“SEIU 2015 members are a collective powerhouse of nearly half a million long-term care workers, and they are mobilizing for pro-care, pro-union candidates,” says SEIU 2015 president Arnulfo De La Cruz. “We must elect leaders who understand that caregivers are the backbone of our communities.”
