UKIAH, CA., 8/28/24 – When wildfires raged through Mendocino County in recent years, Californians from across the state stepped up to support relief efforts. Now grocery shoppers in Ukiah can do the same for our neighbors in the north.

According to Cal Fire, the Park Fire is still currently burning in Plumas, Shasta, Tehama and Butte counties. The fire started July 24 and has burned over 429,000 acres, making it the fourth largest wildfire in California history. It’s also the largest California wildfire to be started by arson. The fire is 89% contained and has destroyed 709 structures, including houses.

To support wildfire relief efforts, Save Mart Companies, which operates the Lucky supermarket in Ukiah, is inviting shoppers to donate any amount of their choosing at checkout. All proceeds will be donated to the Save Mart Companies CARES Foundation, which in turn will distribute grants to local organizations helping individuals impacted by the fires. Each donation is tax-deductible.

“The fundraiser is designed to be a quick and easy way for shoppers to help support the heroic work being done by organizations in local communities,” Save Mart Companies shared in a statement.

Donations are being accepted through Tuesday, September 3. Mendocino County shoppers can donate at Lucky in the Pear Tree Center, 504 E. Perkins St., Ukiah. Shoppers can also donate at Lucky, Save Mart and FoodMaxx stores throughout California.
