  1. Probably the biggest obstacle to developing “alternative techniques” is the rigidity of the building codes and the often hostile attitude of inspectors. By nature, people are endlessly inventive.

    • But we DO have “Class K” building permits here in MendoLand. Yes, plumbing & electric are still inspected but those are components ya don’t want to screw up.

  2. Excellent article… this type program IS essential in our area, especially with a big interest in owner built homes.

    Laney College in Oakland started as a trade school, and one of the courses offered was construction, and I saw a lot of women taking those classes back in 1970.
