FORT BRAGG, CA., 5/22/26 — Applications are open for Fort Bragg’s 2026 Leading the Next Wave of Leaders summer internship program. Students over the age of 15 can gain hands-on experience in municipal government while developing workforce and leadership skills.

The paid internship program will provide students with real-world exposure to local government operations.

“This program is about investing in the next generation and creating real opportunities for local youth right here in Fort Bragg,” said City Manager Isaac Whippy. “One of the City Council’s priorities is to continue expanding youth programs, recreation opportunities, mentorship, and leadership development throughout our community.”

Whippy said one of the goals of the program is to keep young people connected to the future of Fort Bragg.

The program will hire five to seven paid interns, ages 15 and older, to work in city departments from June 15-August 7. Interns will earn $17 per hour during this 8-week program.

Participating departments are finance, planning and community development, the city manager’s office, public works, the police department, the municipal broadband project, and parks and recreation.

Each intern will be paired with a dedicated staff mentor and will complete a final presentation summarizing his or her experiences and contributions to the city.

Interested students can submit their complete application, along with a resume and cover letter, by email to alatorre@fortbraggca.gov, or in person at the front desk of City Hall, 416 North Franklin Street, Fort Bragg. The application is available here.

Applications must be submitted by midnight, Friday, May 29.
