MENDOCINO Co., 11/29/21 — Adventist Health, which operates the three hospitals within Mendocino County, recently received a top safety rating for the Ukiah Valley hospital from the Leapfrog Group. The hospital has previously received the same top safety rating a number of times in recent years.

Here’s the announcement from Adventist Health:

Ukiah, CA. November 10, 2021 – Adventist Health Ukiah Valley received an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety  Grade for fall 2021. This national distinction recognizes Adventist Health Ukiah Valley’s achievements in  protecting patients from harm and error in the hospital.

“Patient safety is most important and top of mind for our team at Adventist Health Ukiah Valley,” said  Judson Howe, president of Adventist Health in Mendocino County. “This is our sixth consecutive “A”  rating making us a straight A facility for patient safety and I could not be prouder of our team for this  outstanding accomplishment. Through the ongoing demand of this pandemic and the challenges it  presents, our team has made patient safety their highest priority and their dedication to the exceptional  patient care we are providing is a true testament to every person’s work at our hospital. It is inspiring to  see every team member lean into this important work.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or  “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over thirty national performance measures  reflecting errors, injuries, accidents and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent  harm.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital  prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully  transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

“An ‘A’ Safety Grade is a tremendous achievement, of which this community should be extremely  proud,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I thank the leadership and  workforce of Adventist Health Ukiah Valley for its commitment to prioritizing patients and their safety,  especially during these trying times.”
