MENDOCINO CO., 5/6/26 — A 26-year-old man was arrested over the weekend after deputies responded to a reported burglary in progress at a commercial building along U.S. Highway 101 in Laytonville, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office were dispatched at about 7:50 a.m. Saturday to the 41000 block of northbound Highway 101 after a property owner reported seeing a man inside the unoccupied building through surveillance cameras.

The suspect was identified as Dylan Rumble, 26, of Willits. The Sheriff’s Office said the property owner confronted Rumble at the scene and observed him rummaging through items inside the building.

Rumble attempted to leave on a motorcycle parked outside, but when it failed to start he fled on foot and was detained nearby by a California Highway Patrol officer, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies arriving at the scene found posted “No Trespassing” signs and items that had been moved within the building, indicating unauthorized entry, according to the law enforcement agency.

Investigators alleged Rumble later admitted arriving at the property on the motorcycle, which deputies observed required an alternative method to start the ignition, indicating it was likely stolen. Deputies later determined the motorcycle belonged to a 67-year-old man in Willits. Police in Willits contacted the owner, who confirmed the motorcycle had been taken.

“Based on the totality of the circumstances, sheriff’s deputies developed probable cause to believe Rumble knew or reasonably should have known the motorcycle was stolen and that he was not lawfully in possession of the motorcycle,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

They said a review of surveillance footage supported the victim’s account and showed behavior consistent with entering the property to commit theft. A records check showed Rumble was on active probation in Mendocino County for possession of a stolen vehicle and was subject to a court order requiring him to obey all laws.

Rumble was booked into Mendocino County Jail on suspicion of second-degree burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, violation of a court order and violation of probation. He was held on $10,000 bail, authorities said.
