UPDATE 1:05 p.m. — The fire has been controlled but firefighters will remain on the scene to mop up.

ORIGINAL
MENDOCINO Co., 10/7/20 — A small wildfire broke out early this afternoon behind the Ukiah Gun Club, near Vichy Springs. Cal Fire has responded with ground resourced and air drops. Already a couple of retardant drops have been made by airplanes, and the fire remains fairly small. No structures appear to be threatened at the moment.

Firefighters hope that they will be able to get a handle on it quickly, as winds are low.

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office did send out a Nixle alert asking people in that area to be alert:

THERE IS A FIRE IN THE AREA OF THE UKIAH GUN CLUB ON VICHEY SPRINGS RD. PLEASE LOOK OUTSIDE AND USE SITUATIONAL AWARENESS IF YOU ARE IN THIS AREA. MCSO via Nixle
