The collision is being called the “Highway IC” and at least one person has required medical attention, and is being transported to Howard Hospital in Willits. The CHP is conducting traffic control to ensure that first-responders can access the scene.
Traffic is impacted significantly in both directions so please avoid the area if possible; tow trucks and other emergency vehicles are currently attempting to make their way to the scene but at least one tow truck is currently stuck in traffic at the bottom of the grade.
This is a developing situation, and we’ll update as soon as more information is available. It is also reported that a k-rail along the 101 is broken.
Reports from the CHP incident page as well as the scanner indicate that the initial collision was a hit and run, and resulted in at least one if not two vehicle rollovers at different points on the 101, resulting in a possible chase, and search for those involved. Little Lake Valley Fire and Redwood Valley Fire were among the local agencies responding to the scene.
