MENDOCINO Co., 11/06/19 — Friday marked the centennial anniversary of the day that the state of California ratified the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, in 1919, which gave women the right to vote, and to commemorate the occasion, Governor Gavin Newsom declared that day “California Women’s Equality Day” to honor women’s suffrage. “Let us celebrate the brave suffragettes on whose shoulders we stand as we carry forward their movement in pursuit of equality for all women,” the proclamation reads.
