UPDATE 9:15 p.m. — Ukiah Valley Fire Authority contained another blaze in downtown Ukiah, this time in the large open space south of the old railroad building at the end of Clay Street. Chief Jeff Adair and crew, who had been at the previous fire, responded to this new fire along with three engines, and assistance from Redwood Valley Fire and Cal Fire, due to two fires occurring in close succession.
This second fire appeared to be human started, and was burning a large stack of about two feet diameter black plastic pipes that were sitting in yard, potentially sewage or drain pipe. The earlier fire, on Pomolita Way, began in the garage and ultimately spread into the attic, Adair confirmed. A chihuahua that lived at the residence remains missing.
