MENDOCINO Co., 9/02/19 -- In honor of the "people who brought you the eight hour work day," today is Labor Day across the United States. Here in California, Governor Newsom has issued a Labor Day proclamation, highlighting the important role labor unions have played in establishing workers' rights like overtime pay, minimum wage, 40 hour work weeks, and more. Newsom also notes that while everyone deserves a fair wage for a day's work, "too many workers are left out of our strong economy and do not get to share in what they create.
We are a worker-owned business here at The Mendocino Voice, because we want to ensure those working to build our business share in it's governance and profits, and that money stays here in Mendocino County. So we're big supporters of Labor Day! We want to give an extra thanks for those you working on this weekend, and hope everyone else is enjoying a well-earned break.
