MENDOCINO Co., 8/2/19 — School may be starting soon, but there are still a number of free, family friendly events are happening at Mendocino County Library branches this month, including book sales, kids’ talent shows, teen events, and more. You can see the full schedule of events at your local branch here, but we’ve highlighted a few selected upcoming activities in August in Ukiah and Fort Bragg.
To check out events at each branch, you can look up events all over the county at this link. And in case you didn’t know, most of the libraries have seed libraries where you can get locally-bred seed varieties for free. The library also offers a variety of online resources, access to discounted tickets and subscriptions, and even has a new app where you can connect to a variety of services, events, and more through your phone.
This weekend, the Ukiah branch will be participating in the First Friday Art Walk on Friday evening, with a display of local quilts from around the county, and the monthly used book sale. The book sale will continue on Saturday, August 3, the branch will hold their monthly used book sale, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with all proceeds going to support the Friends of the Ukiah Library. Saturday will also be the “day that unicorns came to the Ukiah library,” with unicorn-themed stories, costumes, songs, and a film showing happening all day.
The branch will also be hosting two more kids’ farmers’ markets this month on August 7 and 14 at 11 a.m., where kids can bring in their homemade goods and crafts to sell each Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Ukiah library also has events this month covering a range of interests: teen research sessions, weekly photography workshops—plus making sun prints!), and much more. For adults, you might want to check out the “Wines and Spines” book club happening August 29 at Dora’s Gourmet Cafe.
In Fort Bragg, there’s a teen lock-in happening this Saturday, with a “Space Odyssey” theme, with snacks, movies, and games, (and parental permission required), from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. There’s also poetry workshops, lego block parties, adult zen coloring, and the Brew Pub Book Club at Overtime Brewing on August 28. The library will also be at the Fort Bragg farmers’ market every first and third Wednesday.
At the end of the month, over Labor Day weekend, the Fort Bragg library will be holding their annual used book sale beginning August 31, and the Paul Bunyan Days Kiddie Parade will also take place that day at 11 a.m..
On August 10, the Fort Bragg library will be holding their second annual kids talent show for youth 12 and under. The free event doesn’t require an audition, you just need to sign up! Here’s the details:
