MENDOCINO Co., 4/29/19 — Cal Fire will begin burning vegetation debris piles in the Ukiah area on tomorrow, April 30, as part of the two emergency fuel reduction projects happening in Mendocino County. Cal Fire has already begun cutting vegetation back around the Ukiah area, and now will begin controlled burn of some of the debris. The Willits project is currently getting underway.
Cal Fire anticipates that debris burning in Ukiah will begin Tuesday, April 30, and then continue over the next several weeks as air quality and weather conditions allow. The fuel reduction projects will prioritize vegetation thinning so as to reduce the number of fires starting, and the intensity of those fires.
