UPDATE 9:45 p.m. — Both drivers were killed in the accident that occurred on Hwy. 101 this morning. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
MENDOCINO Co., 8/15/18 — A major head-on collision occurred at about 9 a.m. this morning, at the bottom of the Ridgewood Grade, on U.S. Route 101, closing the highway in both directions for some time. The highway is now open, according to the CHP incident page, but significant traffic remains, with a potentially long delay.
The accident occurred near Reeves Canyon Rd. in the section of highway where there is no center-divider, and involved a black pick up truck and maroon Subaru outback — one car crossed the double yellow line and plowed head first into the other. It appears that there were major injuries in both cars, and that crews had to work to extricate the injured from the crash. No word currently on their condition.
