Update 11:30 p.m. — The fire is now being considered “suspicious,” and anyone with any information about the fire should contact the City of Ukiah Police Department at (707) 463-6242.
This article previously stated that a suspect had been arrested based on a Facebook post from the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority; however, it appears that arrest was related to a different fire in Ukiah that occurred earlier on Saturday. Both the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority and the Ukiah Police Department could not be immediately reached for comment on Saturday afternoon.
The fire began on Mason Street but was carried east by wind, and ultimately it destroyed several Adventist Health storage facilities, but did not reach any medical buildings, according to a Ukiah Valley Fire Authority Facebook post. Firefighters from CalFire, Anderson Valley, Potter Valley, Redwood Valley, Little Lake Fire, and Hopland Fire Departments all assisted with the fire response.
ServePro of Mendocino County assisted with the clean-up at the scene.
Here’s the two recent posts from the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority:
Update 5: 30 p.m. — We’ve added some photos of kittens rescued from the fire.
Update 4: 10 p.m. — The fire is under control and additional resources are being cancelled, but crews will be remaining on the scene in order to fully contain and mop up the fire. Traffic controls will remain in place in the area while the fire clean-up response is being completed.
No patient care abilities or services at Adventist Health Ukiah Valley Medical Center are impacted, although there are traffic controls in place near the hospital, UVMC’s Willow Anderson told The Mendocino Voice. A few outbuildings may have been damaged by smoke but a full assessment will take place after the fire is fully extinguished, she added. The fire occurred primarily on Mason Street.
No official cause of the fire has been announced yet. The original article and updates can be seen below.
