MENDOCINO CO., 5/25/18 — Many of you will be hitting the road this Memorial Day weekend (gas prices notwithstanding), and if you are be safe — and watch out. The California Highway Patrol will be conducting a “maximum enforcement period” this weekend.

Specifically, there will be additional CHP officers on the road starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 25 through midnight on Monday, May 28, with a particular focus on seat-belt safety.

According to the CHP over the 2017 Memorial Day weekend 45 people were killed in traffic collisions, in 2016 it was 39. Of those killed 70% were not wearing seat-belts. In both years about 1000 people arrested on DUIs.
