MENDOCINO CO., 11/21/17 — Not sure what you’re doing on Thursday? Did you know there are free community dinners happening around the county? If you’re looking for someplace to go, consider meeting up with your friends and neighbors at one of these events, many of which need volunteers. Ukiah – Plowshares Peach & Justice Center will serve a free Thanksgiving dinner at the regularly scheduled lunch, from 11:30 to 12pm at 1346 S State Street in Ukiah.
Ukiah – the Ukiah Senior Center, 12pm at Bartlett Hall, 285 Leslie Street. $8 for members, who can purchase one additional ticket at a member price; $10 for non-members, limited seating available. Get your tickets by calling 462-4343 or going to the Ukiah Senior Center Administration Office.
Willits – the 28th annual Harrah Senior Center Thanksgiving Dinner, 11am – 3pm at the Harrah Senior Center, 1501 Baechtel Rd, Willits. Everyone is welcome and the dinner is free but donations are accepted.
Laytonville – In past years there has been a free community potluck held at the Long Valley Garden Club, but we have not confirmed it is happening this year.
Fort Bragg – free annual dinner at the First Presbyterian Church, 2 – 4pm, 367 South Sanderson, Fort Bragg.Everyone is welcome, the dinner is complimentary although donations are accepted. They will also be delivering to the greater Fort Bragg area, reservations accepted no later than Wednesday. To make a reservation, call the delivery coordinator, Printah, at 707-357-5480. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the volunteer coordinator, Laura Anderson, [email protected] Of this year’s event, Pastor Cheryl Finch said, “This year in particular it’s a real community effort to put this dinner on. The church’s coordinator had to step aside after many years, and we’ve taken on a whole team from the community, so it really is a community effort. We’re excited about it, it should be a wonderful dinner.”
Shelter – Redwood Community Services has opened the Winter Emergency Shelter at 1045 South State Street in Ukiah. Intake happens at Plowshares from Monday – Thursday from 5:30pm – 6:30pm. Guests must check in daily to keep their spot and be in the shelter by 8pm. You can reach them at 234-3260. It is unclear if an emergency winter shelter is currently open on the coast and those seeking shelter should consider travelling to Ukiah. Here’s the details from the shelter’s opening:
