UKIAH 4/10/2017 — Craig Schlatter will start working as the City of Ukiah’s new director of community development and planning on May 1. Here’s the city’s press release, with a brief bio:
The City of Ukiah is pleased to welcome Craig Schlatter as Director of Community Development and Planning.
Mr. Schlatter brings to the City an extraordinary record of developing new programs and projects, increasing organizational efficiencies, and building successful teams. He has served the Mendocino County Community Development Commission since 2006, where his expertise in housing, economic development and sustainability have resulted in positive impacts County-wide.
Schlatter has been a strong lobbyist for housing and economic development at both the State and Federal levels and has provided services in these areas to the City of Ukiah and the County of Mendocino for many years. He has been tremendously successful in developing programs and the writing and administration of numerous grants for both organizations, resulting in over $10 million in State and Federal funding for Mendocino County for affordable housing, business assistance programs, and more.
“Ukiah is embarking on a number of important projects, including the development of new housing, business expansions, and the update of our General Plan,” says City Manager Sage Sangiacomo. “Mr. Schlatter is an ideal complement to our existing Planning and Economic Development staff and, with his leadership and vision, will be a tremendous asset to the community.”
Schlatter graduated from Illinois State University with an MS in Economics with an emphasis in Applied Community and Economic Development. In accepting the position, he stated, “I am excited for the opportunity to leverage my strength in building partnerships to help as the City further envisions its economic development and housing programs. I look forward to assisting in making Ukiah a place where residents can stay, finding jobs and housing for themselves and their children.”
Schlatter will officially begin on May 1st, when he will join Planning Manager Kevin Thompson, Associate Planner Adelle Phillips, Building Official David Willoughby and other team members in the Community Development and Planning Department.
