FORT BRAGG, 4/26/2017 — At about 12:30pm on Tuesday, April 26, the Fort Bragg Fire Department received a report of a structure fire at 542 North Main Street. Police blocked off the street about ten minutes later. Mutual aid from the Mendocino Volunteer Fire Department was on the scene around quarter after one, and as of 3:00 CalFire had joined the firefighting effort. There have been no reports of injuries thus far.
The building and the .56 acre lot was sold to Randy and Sheryl Jacobszoon for $556,500 in February of 2005. It is home to several businesses, including Cafe Del Mar, which opened in early 2016. The restaurant and its owner, Isael Alcala, received a rave review from local foodie magazine Word of Mouth in September of 2016.
The building has housed several ventures in the last few years, a situation which can increase the possibility of firefighters coming across dangerous old wiring. The Mendocino Voice will post updates as more information becomes available.
