UPDATE 2/25/17, 11:30pm: The recent rains have collapsed the hillside once again, the the 101 is now closed. CalTrans will update in the morning.

MENDOCINO CO., 4/24/17 — You can now drive between Mendocino and Humboldt counties, as of about 6pm, on Highway 101! After long days of work clearing the landslide, including using a spider excavator lowered in on a helicopter to clear dirt, Caltrans has re-opened to road to one way traffic.

Caltrans will have flaggers on the road to direct traffic, and will have spotters in place 24/7 to watch for falling rocks and any further slide activity. Flaggers will be on alert to stop traffic as needed. The road is not expected to be open to two-way traffic for several months; we’ll update as more information becomes available.
