UPDATED 2/4/17: The Mendocino County Food Policy Council has rescheduled the event for Monday, February 13, from 2 – 4pm at the Little Lake Grange in Willits.
The Mendocino County Food Policy Council‘s mission is “to promote a fair and sustainable local food system through research, collaboration and advocacy,” and is a project of non-profit North Coast Opportunities.
From the event description:
“The topic of discussion at the community is how to define Willits as a food and restaurant destination.
At the forum, we plan to discuss the ways in which Willits can boost tourist traffic and increase local interest in our food culture. We hope to connect local food producers with area restaurants, marketing assistance, and other resources. We have invited guest speakers from different sectors of our local economy and welcome all interested parties to join in the discussion.”
Topics of discussion will include the importance of locally grown food, resources available for farmers, restaurants, and food retailers, and how to improve Willits’ local food culture and tourist traffic. Speakers will examine the question: “the bypass is here…what’s next?” through a look at the local food economy.
More information can be found at the event’s Facebook page. More information about the Food Policy Council, including links to download the 2014 “Food Action Plan” for the county, can be found here. The Little Lake Grange is located at 291 School Street in Willits.
