Wounded Covelo man refuses to say who shot him

MENDOCINO Co., 2/8/17 — Yesterday a 22 year old man showed up at Covelo Fire Department with a gunshot wound in his torso. Jefferey Joaquin was taken by ambulance to Howard Memorial Hospital in Willits, where he received treatment, and is apparently conscious. But here’s the wrinkle — he refused to say who’d shot him, or, in the words of the press release issued by the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office this morning, “refused to cooperate with this investigation and did not provide any possible suspect information or a possible location where this crime occurred.”

Mendocino Sports Plus reported from scanner traffic that Joaquin had shown up at the firehouse, while the sheriff’s press release says instead that he was found in the 22500 block of Refuse Rd. MSP also noted that Joaquin was transported by ground ambulance, because the air support declined to respond due to weather.
