MENDOCINO Co. 1/12/2017 — The Mendocino County Office of Emergency Services writes, “It appears we have weathered the storm.” The Russian River at Hopland flooded at 22.3 feet, instead of the 26.1 feet that was predicted. The voluntary evacuation order in the Oak Manor neighborhood of Ukiah has been lifted, and the two evacuation centers have been closed. The Mendocino County Dept. of Transportation reports that no county roads are closed at this time, but some state roads remain closed.
At 6:30 this morning, CalTrans reported that Hwy 175 at Hopland was re-opened at 10:55 last night. A brief slide on 175 near Lake County was cleared.
Route 1 at the Garcia River was also re-opened last night.
Route 1 near Leggett is closed due to a slide.
In other road closures, one of two lanes on Route 1, just north of Fort Bragg, from Airport Road to Happy Lane, is closed due to utility work.
Highway 128 is still closed from the junction with Hwy 1 to Flynn Creek Road, 11 miles east. Phil Frisbee, of CalTrans, said crews were monitoring 128, so as to open it as soon as possible.
Just south of the Willits bypass, there is debris on the southbound 101 on-ramp next to the junction with Hwy 20. The debris is just starting to go over the white line, and is not a traffic hazard, as of 11:30am. That section of the hillside has been unstable for decades. Phil Frisbee, of CalTrans, said CalTrans should have a contractor in within a few days to figure out how to repair it. “The ramp is plenty wide enough to accommodate traffic,” he said.
An accident with major injuries on Highway 101 north of Brooktrails, south of 162, was reported at 8:20am. A dark-colored sedan was in the middle of the river, pinned against some trees. Southbound lane #2 was blocked. Little Lake fire was sending swift water rescue. An ambulance was also en route.
At 11:02am, CHP received a report of a traffic hazard in the northbound lane of the Comptche/Ukiah Road, Hwy 1, south of Mendocino and north of Little River. Two small pickup trucks collided. No injuries were reported.
