WILLITS, 12/16/2016 — A small slide occurred near the southbound on-ramp at the south end of the Willits bypass. Geologists have inspected the hillside and the situation is being monitored, according to Phil Frisbie, a public information officer for CalTrans District 1. The slide is about six feet away from the white line on the road. “That hillside has been an issue for many decades,” Frisbie said. The slide is on a connecting ramp, where the soil is unstable. At this point, according to Frisbie, there are no structural solutions, but if the problem worsens, “we may have to engineer a fix,” like additional layers of rock on the structure of the bypass.
