On 10-06-2016 at approximately 7:06 P.M., Deputies from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to investigate a possible burglary at a residence in the 24000 block of Ward Avenue in Fort Bragg, California.
Deputies responded and spoke with the reporting party who is a neighbor and caretaker for the property where the burglary occurred. The reporting party told Deputies that she responded to the home and observed an open window and a leg protruding from the window. The reporting party left the area and reported the incident as a possible burglary.
Deputies searched the area and located a male in the garden area at the residence where the suspected burglary occurred. The male subject was identified as Jeffrey Bennatts, who planned on sleeping inside the residence.
During the investigation, Deputies discovered multiple items that were taken from the residence and developed probable cause that Bennatts was responsible for stealing the items. Bennatts was placed under arrest for 459/460(a)PC (First Degree Residential Burglary).
Bennatts was subsequently booked into the Mendocino County Jail where he was to be held in lieu of $50,000.00 bail.
